1917 and Dunkirk are the 2 best war movies and in the best movies ever. Saving Private Ryan is also an amazing movie but not the best. A king has no friends, only followers and foe.

I saw 1917 opening night. The scene in the forest of the company of soldiers gathered to listen to one of their own sing Wayfaring Stranger (by Jos Slovick) before they go to battle made my eyes well with tears. I want the full version of the song as it was sung in the movie. It was so beautiful in its pure simplicity. In a very real sense 1917 has achieved epitome status in combining all the elements of pace (time) setting (space) and story (matter) in great filmmaking. I absolutely love this movie. 1917 better dominate at the Oscar's. If not Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor (George MacKay) it should, at the very least, win Best Cinematography, Best Story, and Best Set Design. It was an incredible story told in intimate detail on an epic scale.
